Rosealley 76

Rosealley 76 - exceptional exhibition to make domestic violence visible

Domestic violence occurs despite any economical, regional, ethnical or ideological status or background. It can take different forms: physical, psychological or sexual. Domestic violence is violence against women, a crime and a human rights violation.

When violence occurs behind the closed doors it is less noticeable and it can go on for years. Home should be the safest place in our lives where we are unconditionally loved and nurtured. Violence affects deeply its victims. It threads victims’ physical and mental health and their lives. No one should suffer from it. It also damages children witnessing it.

Rosealley 76 is a great way to raise awereness of domestic violence and to advocate safer homes for women and girls. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to visualize the topic of domestic violence for all. The exhibition usually consists of an apartment or room with display boards indicating how violence happened. Exhibition set as a home touches everyone and encourages discussing about violence.

The idea of Rosealley 76 is originated from Brot für die Welt and Agentur Grüsshaber and has been part of YWCA of Finland advocacy work against violence from August 2008. It has been to over 20 cities in Finland with over 4000 visitors. The exhibition is usually built in a public place or school. With the exhibition YWCA of Finland aims to prevent domestic violence and encourage victims of violence to seek ways out.
